Roswell UFO Incident

What is the Roswell UFO incident?

According to Wikipedia, it is when “a United States Army Air Forces balloon crashed at a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico.” (Wikipedia)

In the year of 1947, a rancher by the name of Mac Brazel found unidentifiable debri spread on his sheep pasture outside of Roswell, New Mexico. He said these items consisted of metallic sticks, chunks of plastic, foil reflectors, and scraps of a heavy glossy material– which he described as some kind of paper. He couldn’t identify what these objects were so he called the Roswell sheriff. After following up on the call, the sheriff called the Air Force base. The local officials from the Air Force base said it was debri from a crashed weather balloon. (History)

Based on the materials Brazel described, it was obvious that they were not from a weather balloon. Many believed that this debri was actually from a flying saucer. This suspicion was also led on by a series of “dummy drops” in the area following the incident of the weather balloon. The Air Force would do these “dummy drops” over test ranges, air bases, and open fields. They said the purpose of these drops was to test the ways for pilots to survive falls from high altitudes. These dummies were bandaged and had latex skin and aluminum bones.

Once these dummies hit the ground, military vehicles would pick them up right away. They were very secretive about all of this stuff. People believed these drops also had something to do with extraterrestrial life.

Almost 50 years after this story came out, the United States military admitted that it had to do with a “top-secret atomic espionage project called, ‘Project Mogul.'” The debri had supposedly been from a ‘string of neoprene balloons, radar reflectors and sonic equipment.’ Apparently it had been launched from a base in Alamogordo in June and then crashed later that year in July.

Since WWII, geophysicists and oceanographers from Columbia University, New York University, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution had been working on ‘Project Mogul. (History)

“Project Mogul used sturdy high-altitude balloons to carry low-frequency sound sensors into the tropopause, a faraway part of the Earth’s atmosphere that acts as a sound channel. In this part of the atmosphere, sound waves can travel for thousands of miles without interference, much like under the ocean.” – History

They thought that if they could get listening devices into this ‘channel’ they could eavesdrop on places even as far as the Soviet Union. There was a report released many years later with all of this information about ‘Project Module.’ (History)

“The federal General Accounting Office produced a report (“Report of Air Force Research Regarding the Roswell Incident”) designed to debunk these rumors.” – History

There are still people who don’t believe the government, even after they released the report. They believe that it had to have been something more. That there had to have been a reason that the military hadn’t released this information sooner. I will admit it is a little fishy but to go as far as to say it was aliens, I won’t. I’ll let you come up with your own opinion on that. You could even do some more research on the topic if you wanted. Here’s a video on the incident if you want to learn a little more:
